A long weekend between the home beach, Stilo's Cattolica and ancient Kaulon.
The perfect weekend for a first visit to the Ionian coast of Catanzaro: the sea in the morning, when the beach is at its quietest, and for the rest of the day the two landmark sights of the area, both under twenty minutes' drive from the Marina.
Day 1
Settle in and walk to the beach, five minutes away: it is wide, mostly free, with protected dunes behind. At sunset, stroll the promenade among palms and benches.
Day 2
A morning by the sea at the Marina. In the afternoon climb to Stilo, home of Tommaso Campanella and one of Italy's most beautiful villages: the five-domed Cattolica is the icon of Byzantine Calabria.

Day 3
In the morning the archaeological park of ancient Kaulon at Monasterace, with the Doric temple and the great Hellenistic mosaic of dragons and dolphins. Back to the beach in the afternoon before heading home.
